Gaza Strip

The Gaza Strip is on the Eastern Coast of the Mediterranean Sea, by Isreal and Egypt. It has an area of 360 square kilometers, where Canada's is 9,984,670 square kilometes. The population is currently 1.5 million (1,500,000) people.
80% of those people are living in poverty.
That means 1.2 million (1,200,000) people are living in conditions that no one deserves to live in.

Toodleloo!

Another Poem...

You see their lives waste away,
But you do nothing to help them.
They struggle to live,
While sitting in a gutter.

Without food they go hungry and starve.
They do not choose to live like this,
But they have no other choice.

We are the ones that can make a difference,
Yet so many people don’t even care.
While you sit in a house full of luxuries,
They try to hold on to the little things they have.

Don’t be the one to let them give up.
Don’t see them disappear and be forgotten.
Give them some hope.
Is that too much to ask for?

one I posted for those of you who asked :)

Just A Little Something...

What is Poverty?

Poverty is the young kids sleeping on the sides of the road.
Poverty is having no food to eat.
Poverty is praying at night, hoping that in the morning, it'll be better.
If you make it.

Poverty is being able to see the children's bones, straight through their flesh.
Poverty is the children's cheeks, just as hollow as their eyes.
Poverty is the eyes of the young children, looking up at you and asking what they did wrong to deserve this.
The answer is nothing.

Poverty

"I'm Starving!!" I know I've said that to my mom a lot, when I'm hungry and I'm sure you have too. I've also said "I'm going to die of thirst" or "I NEED to go shopping!" The thing is, when the kids who are living in poverty are starving and they wish they could go shopping, but they will most likely never be able to and even though it's sad, they probably will die of thirst.

Just Some Facts....

Over 22,000 children die every day around the world.
That is equivalent to:
  • 1 child dying every 4 seconds
  • 15 children dying every minute
  • A 2010 Haiti earthquake occurring almost every 10 days
  • A 2004 Asian Tsunami occurring almost every 10 days
  • An Iraq-scale death toll every 18–43 days
  • Just under 8.1 million children dying every year
  • Some 88 million children dying between 2000 and 2009

What Is Poverty?

Poverty is the lack of basic human needs. For example: clean water, good nutrition and health, clothing, education and shelter. The reason this is so bad, is these kids are living in conditions that they can't help. Almost 1.7 people are living in complete poverty.

This is a slum in Indonesia. An example of extreme poverty.

According to the United Nations, one person dies every three and a half seconds. Unfortunatly, it is the children who die most often. On Friday, December 3rd 2010, during the hour of 10:00am, Over 1043 people died of hunger and poverty. This is a number that we should not even be seeing when it comes to a topic like this! We have to do something to help. But what?

Introduction to Poverty

"At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day."

"According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.”

These are quoted from http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats. I read these two facts and felt a pain inside of me. While we are worried about what people think of us, the clothes we wear, and how we act, these kids just want to survive. When I hear that 22,000 kids die each day due to poverty, it makes me think what we really could do to help them.

"Almost two in three people lacking access to clean water survive on less than $2 a day, with one in three living on less than $1 a day."
